menswear loosens up!

no longer just for the stiff and starchy, the naysayers of untucked shirts, or the members of "boys only" clubs - - the look of menswear is popping up everywhere, and oh, boy (and girl) is it striking!

5 things to do with your crispy white,
off white or solid hue button down now!

1. the "yes, i'm at my goal weight, classic beauty " outfit - -
this idea is simply the meaning of effortless wear.
try a sleeveless or black dress and tie at the waist.
one of the oldest styling tricks in the book to look 10 lbs. thinner instantly!
this look, paired with tall boots is an "i can go anywhere at anytime and be perfectly dressed".

2.  the "school spirit outfit" - -
spending a lot of time sitting in the bleachers this fall?
pair your dark denim with your button down shirt,
keeping the collar open by unbuttoning the first 2-3 buttons.
put a scoop neck or v-neck sweater over it, preferably in the color of your team.
untucked or tucked, this look is a winner on everybody.

3. the "ultimate cocktail party outfit" - -
a how to play it cool approach - -
put on your favorite slip, a patterned tight,
and a great pair of metallic or vintage kitten heels.
add an eye catching bauble necklace
(any choker works great too!).
feelin' cool yet?
everyone at the party thinks your famous,
and why wouldn't you be?

4. the "i'm a model and its my day off" approach - -
wake up in your leggings with your hair piled
high on head. wedge your glasses onto the crown
of your tousled half ponytail,
and slip into your boyfriend's oversized,
long and wrinkled work shirt.
who cares if it hasn't been washed?
make it your own by layering your favorite chunky scarf.
consider applying lip gloss. grab your messenger bag
and load it up with things to do.
open your apartment door,
strut down the hall with an urban gait,
and greet the world on a lovely afternoon.

5. the "oh, the places i'll go today into tonight" outfit - -
do you only want to get dressed once a day, and are diverse in your activities -
i.e. a full day of work and play  on your plate?
this style is for you!

TIP: LAY YOUR OUTFIT OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE.

step by step directions;
roll out of bed at 5 am,
shower and then put on a cami.
once the coffee is brewing, slide into your stretch knit skirt (plain or patterned will work!).
put on your tights, closed toed shoes (boots or pumps are best!),
your button down and tuck it in. then put a blazer or vest over the top.
later on, untuck the top and let your hair down.
instantly a girl on the town! if you're not a skirt wearer,
pair the top half with black pants or high waisted trousers.
fall tweed is great too!

try each of these looks for true style diversity,
and remember to keep your eyes and ears open for the compliments happening all around you

Hot, Trendy Hair Items

Check out Thursday's Shopgirls appearance on Fox4kc.com!

So ladies, fall is upon us.
A season ripe with rich hues, and new ways to accessorize an updated you!

What can you use to add some vavoom to your personal style without touching your outfit?

Two words; HAIR ACCESSORIES. yep, you got it hair accessories.  inexpensive, versatile, and lovely hair accessories.

Here are my top 3 reasons WHY YOU SHOULD INVEST IN SOME GREAT HAIR ACCESSORIES.

1.  MINIMIZE YOUR PRIMPING EFFORTS.  whether you're headed to work, the grocery store, an all night red carpet affair, or all 3 in the same day- adding a clip, barrette or interesting hair tie can really add some serious style to your look in a matter of moments.

2.  CORRECT AND CONCEAL- need a pick me up or a cover up?  add a trendy turban, a feathered headband or a wide stretch knitted band.  you'll look so put together and confident, no one will guess you have something to hide.

3.  WORK WITH SHORT, LONG, OR NO HAIR.  you can rock this trend no matter the length of your hair!  babies do it all the time and look darling.

FIVE TERRIFIC TRENDS TO LOOK FOR IN HAIR ACCESSORIES.

1.  SEQUINS- let yourself sparkle and shine with this shimmering trend.  tip: colors that really add allure to your favorite LBD- gold, silver, and multi. *favorite among hollywood folks- sequin bow headbands.  for the ultimate fashionista- combine a feather headband and ADD a sequined bobby pin to the bulkiest part of the feather.

2. RHINESTONES- i know, you immediately think "dab of dallas" is still in?!  think instead vintage glam or your grandmother's brooch.  this trend in hair accessories is extremely retro- more aged, less shiny.

3.  CULTURED PRINTS-  the prints to add right now are highly sophisticated, intricate works of art.  African batiks,  japanese kimonos, hand-dyed silks, and anything mod. to tame your wild side, add an ever-striking neon combo or python print.

4. FLOWERS, LACE AND PEARLS- casting call for girls gone girly! this trend is for you! just when you thought you've femmed up everything, you find these ultra romantic frillies combined!   twirl and pin your locks with a combination of different flower inspired hairpins whilst reciting your poetry in the park.

5. LEATHER- buttery and soft leather shapes and fringe are a great compliment to the "already here and not going anywhere anytime soon" feather trend.  leather also looks great tied around a ponytail or worked into a braid.  if you want to add some color try turquiose, red, or mustard.
